Foothills Swing Dance Society

We actively volunteered for this organization from 2001 - 2007. Now owning two small business we have just ran out of any extra time to donate to the society but the FSDS has given so much to the local swing dancing community and we wanted to let our students know how they could help the FSDS in putting on dances and special events.

Who They Are

The Foothills Swing Dance Society (FSDS) is a 501(c)3 non-profit corporation dedicated to the preservation and promotion of the indigenous American dance forms known as swing, to educate the public about the music and culture related to swing dancing and its history, and to develop and support a thriving swing dance community.

What They Do

Sponsor swing dance workshops and local swing dance venues. They have been holding monthly swing dances, with both djs and live bands, since October of 2001 and they hold a yearly "Day of Swing" event in celebration of this anniversary.

Provide swing dance lessons. At each of their monthly dances, they provide a beginning East Coast Swing lesson. The one-hour lesson is intended to enable beginning dancers to get on the floor and enjoy an evening of dance regardless of experience. They also invite world renowned instructors to teach at workshops and special events.

Organize events for all ages that are smoke free and alcohol free. They are dedicated to providing a wholesome activity and atmosphere for people of all ages.

How You Can Help

The FSDS Board of Directors is composed 100% of volunteers, and welcomes the help of other volunteers. There is always more to do than there are hands to do it.

If you have time that you are willing to donate, they need people to help with distributing posters for our frequent events. Each dance needs people to help with setting up, cleaning up, and serving patrons at the door or the concessions table. They need volunteers to help us grow with grant writing or with outreach to other organizations for collaboration. For those who want to be very involved, there may be room on our board for you. If you have ideas about how your skills might help us, they'd like to hear them!

Cash donations are always welcome and are tax deductible. Donations allow us to maintain our low admission prices; help offset the coast of insurance; enable them to bring to the Sierra Foothills accomplished instructors for workshops and more live swing dance bands.
